Concealer: an on off love affair.

Laura Mercier Secret Concealer for under eyes review…

After several weeks of convincing myself I absolutely did not have darker patches under my eyes and that I was in fact “just a bit tired” I admitted defeat and decided it was time to buy a Laura Mercier Secret Concealer.

Now concealer and I have had a bit of an on/ off love affair over the years, but generally mostly off. That’s because I am an avid fan of false lashes and mascara and generally I find that anything cream based under my eye just makes me look like a wild panda by 10am (a problem that work colleagues are generally too polite to tell you about.)

Nevertheless on my bank holiday weekend trip to Manchester I popped into Harvey Nichols and walked straight to the Laura Mercier counter. I was met by a lady called Emma who when I said I was looking for an under eye concealer swiftly told me I did not need anything too heavy as I (praise Emma!) had “young skin” and “did not suffer from dark circles.”

Emma took one look at me and said “I think you will need Laura Mercier Secret Concealer in shade 1.5 – you don’t want anything too dark under the eye as you want it to be nice and light and blend beautifully.” She then sent me swiftly on my way with shade 1.5, a LARGE tester pot of protecting primer  (which will undoubtedly last 2 weeks), a sample of the new rose oil and moisturiser and an assurance that if I did not get on with the product I could return it within 14 days no quibbles.

Having used the concealer for 3 days now I am utterly 100% in love. It feels light under my eyes yet provides an even and good coverage without looking like I have anything on. It’s  doesn’t crack/ wrinkle like some other concealers do and literally only needs to be applied once in a morning with zero top ups through the day.

I apply with a concealer brush over my primer and underneath my foundation, however it comes in a little handy handbag sized pot so could easily be topped up with a finger in an emergency during the day if need be.

At £19.50 it’s worth every penny. My love affair with concealer begins again!

PS. It is always important to praise and acknowledge good staff and a good service (no matter how busy our days may be) so Emma of the Harvey Nichols Laura Mercier counter –  you were fantastic – thank you.

I’m happy you have recognized that staff member and I’m also happy she gave such amazing service. I work in retail in my real life and everyday there is less and less positivity on both sides of the counter it makes me sad

There’s good in bad in all & too often people comment on the bad & never the good. I always like to give credit where it’s due! ✨
