6 things I achieved in 2015…

Rather than write another generic “New Years Resolutions” post about all of the things I want to change and do better, I thought I’d do things a bit differently this year. I decided to adopt a more positive approach in 2016, starting with identifying the six biggest things I achieved in 2015 and should be proud of.

So here they are…

Set up a blog (the most obvious!) 329f171bb4713e87688cc407904af993
I started blogging in May 2015 and within the 7 months I have been established on www.jessicakg.com I have learned a whole load of new skills – photograph styling and composition, camera settings and techniques, photo editing,  HMTL coding and web design, SEO, brand marketing and PR, networking… the list goes on! So for anyone who says bloggers are just blaggers, bore off.

Made new friends
It’s very easy to take for granted the friends y0u already have especially as you get older, but this year I have met so many amazing people who inspire me and challenge me to be better. It’s always good to meet people with similar interests, particularly when they are different to those you and your existing friends share. I know that getting out there and starting new things can be scary but there are literally millions of people in the world, don’t close yourself off to meeting them.  I am definitely looking forward to spending time with old and new friends in 2016!

Change is always challenging but stepping out of your comfort zone is sometimes just what you need to give you some focus and clarity on where
you actually want to go and what you really want to achieve in your career. I’ve certainly gained huge perspective in the last 12 months, so watch this space…

I saved!

For some people saving comes with ease, but for me saving is a novel concept and one I simply have never been able to achieve… until 2015. This year I managed to put some money away which is definitely a big deal for me, so here’s to not spending it in 2016….

I FINALLY paid off my student loan (10 years after it landed in my bank)
Anyone who is studying at the moment will appreciate just how bigger deal this is, but a law degree and Solicitor job title later and it’s all paid
off. It’s so sad that our current government make further education so difficult to access now, especially since for most jobs you need that piece of paper regardless of whether you actually use it. I do hope that me paying it off gives some of you guys the hope that you can too. I promise that there is light at the end of that tunnel!

c5fb331d8458fed16f7a487bc4829ce2I changed my outlook
….no not my emails, my overall outlook. I’ve always been someone who applies too much pressure on myself, so this year I tried to have a more laid back approach. To see the positives in everything and realise that the shitty times are just a passing phase and that there is always going to be something better around the corner. I forget about the bad times, bad comments and bad friends and focus on the good, the great and the amazing. Life is too short to do anything else.

What did you achieve in 2015?

Fab post! I’m loving reading everyones positive posts, plus those, similar to my own, reflecting on achievements and things we’ve loved and or are grateful for in 2015. 🙂
It’s amazing how even the smallest of changes can influence others. Changing our own outlook can have a great knock-on effect to other aspects of our life. 🙂
    Here’s to a brilliant 2016 for you.

Hi Jessica, just stumbled on this post and going to have a nosey round the rest of your blog. Well done on what sounds like a massive last year – I have managed to save quite a bit recently (recently outlined at my own blog), but I am in awe that you’ve managed to pay off your student loan AND even bigger than that, change your mental outlook. I struggle with seeing the positives among the negatives at times too, but am getting there. A happy and prosperous New Year to you!
