Sunday 4th October 2016 was the annual Beauty Blogger Awards and as regular readers will know, this years event was particularly special to me as I was shortlisted as a finalist for the Best New Beauty Blog Award sponsored by Redken.
The Beauty Blogger Awards are held at London Olympia as part of the annual Olympia Beauty show and are designed to recognise the achievements of the most inspiring beauty bloggers from the following categories:
- Best New Beauty Blog*
- Best Established Beauty Blog
- Best Designed Beauty Blog
- Best YouTuber
- Best Instagrammer
- Best Use of Social Media
- Outstanding Beauty Blogger Career Achievement
*The Best New Beauty Blog Award is open to bloggers who have been blogging for less than 18 months.
At the time of being shortlisted for the award in June 2016 I had been blogging for 13 months, but entered in January when I had been blogging for just under 8 months. Given the short amount of time I had been blogging and the sheer talent in my category, I was over the moon to be shortlisted, let alone listed as one of six finalists.
Alongside the awards ceremony itself were a number of brands exhibiting and showcasing their products. There were also guest speakers who were there to pass on their knowledge and experience of blogging or working within the beauty industry which I personally found really insightful and inspiring.
Brands exhibiting at the Beauty Blogger Awards this year were;
- Jane Iredale
- Nouveau Lashes
- NYX Cosmetics
Guest speakers this year included;
- Rajesh of Asiana TV
- SEO Expert Irene Moore
- Bloggers and Vloggers; London Beauty Queen, Grace Victory, Ambarina Hasan, Franny Mac, Emma Gunavardhana and Beauty Junkie London
- Emma Ledger of Lash Gang & Nouveau Lashes
- Laura Conlon of Skinfix
- Blogosphere magazine
I am particularly proud of Fran of FrannyMac for doing her presentation on blog photography. After rushing to make sure we made her presentation it was great to be able to support her in passing on her expertise to other bloggers. I am sure those of you who read Fran’s blog will agree that her photography is beautiful so it was great to hear some of her tips and tricks.
So who were the award winners of 2016?
- Best New Beauty Blog – Eleise online
- Best Established Beauty Blog – I Heart Beauty
- Best Designed Beauty Blog – Eltoria
- Best YouTuber – Eleise online
- Best Instagrammer – My Pale Skin
- Best Use of Social Media – Laura Jenkinson
- Outstanding Beauty Blogger Career Achievement – Eltoria
As you can see, sadly I didn’t win the Best New Beauty Blog award, but I did come highly commended which I am really proud of! The beauty blogging community is full of so many talented and inspirational bloggers so I never expected to be shortlisted, let alone come highly commended. Whilst an award would of course have been truly fantastic (after all you don’t enter these things if you don’t want to win do you?!) I couldn’t have thought of a better person to come second to. Eleise is simply stunning, very talented and makes fantastic vlogs.
*Cheese alert* the beauty blogger awards was one of the first events I ever attended as a beauty blogger (see my 2015 Beauty Blogger Awards review here) so it will always be an event that holds a special place in my heart. For me, the best part was being able to spend the day with some fellow bloggers- have a giggle, a glass of fizz and generally enjoy the event. It’s such a great opportunity to pick up a few tips and network with fellow bloggers and beauty professionals from all aspects of the industry.
So…. will I be back in 2017 fighting for an award? Of course. But in the meantime, I shall keep writing about what I love and sharing it with you guys.
It goes without saying that I am hugely grateful to anyone who voted and supported me in the award, so thank you.
And as always, thank you so much for reading and your continued support, which makes it all so worthwhile!
In the meantime I’ll leave you with a few photos from the day…
Jessica KG ♡
PS. I have already booked my ticket for this years event so if you are attending too please do let me know…
