I am one of 30 very lucky #bbloggers to receive a first edition “Beauty Blogger Box” this August. The #bloggerbeautybox was founded by fellow beauty blogger Vix Meldrew who has carefully sourced the brands featured before putting together this little white and pink box of surprises.
Featured in my box was:
Timeless Truth Organic Silk Fibre Elixir Mask
I have never used a cloth mask so found this a little tricky to apply to my face initially, but once I’d peeled the back off it moulded to my face really easily and felt lovely. It was thick with the elixir serum and had plenty left in the pack so if you wanted to maximise the product and go for a second application you could. This particular mask has 18 amino acids in and is designed to reverse the loss of elasticity in the skin, plump and hydrate. When I took the mask off after 20 minutes my face felt tight, but the fine lines in my forehead had disappeared. I think my skin may be a little young for this particular mask but I was impressed with the results. I would be interested to see how this worked on older skin and also to try other masks in the Timeless Truth range.
MooGoo Cover-Up Buttercup SPF15 Natural Moisturiser
I have never heard of Australian brand MooGoo but was really excited to try this product. It is made with 100% natural products including zinc and raspberry oil and is suitable for both babies and adults. I loved the concept but was personally a little disappointed with the scent as I had thought it would smell of raspberries. The scent it has is very subtle, clean and neutral so does make it suitable for all ages, sexes and skin types. This moisturiser would be fantastic for people with dry skin as it is very thick and you only need a small amount. I personally tend to use thinner products as I moisturise every day but will definitely be using the rest of this tube on my legs after shaving.
Dusty Girls Natural Mineral Shimmering Lip Gloss in “Pacific Ocean Shimmer”
I absolutely loved the packaging of this product! It comes in it’s own little sliding cardboard box and so feels like you are getting something really special. I usually tend to opt for lipsticks over lip glosses as I find lip gloss too sticky and an ineffective weapon in the battle of wind vs hair. That said, I found this lip gloss to feel more like a balm when applied. It was not sticky at all and gave a really natural clean shimmering finish. The product is fab on its own but would also layer quite easily over a matte lipstick if you found your lipstick a little drying or wanted to add a little shimmer. Overall I was very impressed and would definitely buy this product and try others in the Dusty Girls range.
W7 Eye Lust Ultimate Mascara in “Blackest Black”
Eyelashes have always been “my thing” and so a good mascara is one of my daily essentials. In terms of application I found the brush of this product to be a little too big and therefore difficult to avoid getting around my eye area when applying. Having said that I thought the overall finish of the product was pretty good. My eyelashes were clump free and very natural looking but darker and more defined. I also often find that my eyelashes “drop” after applying mascara – i.e. when applying my eyelashes are instantly thicker and have more volume, but once set they’re at their natural height, dip at the ends and look clumpy. I was pleasantly surprised that this did not happen with this product and that the end result was the same as it was during application. It also passed the panda eye test so it’s a thumbs up from me!
W7 Fluorescent Kiss Lipstick in “Summer Breeze”
Of all the products in my box this was the one I was least excited about. At 28 I have tried and tested a lot of products and practically every shade going so I knew that anything entitled “Fluorescent Kiss” was not going to be my bag. In good beauty blogger spirit I gave it a go in the hope that I would in fact be proved wrong, but when your other half laughs and says “…you look like a 15 year old chav who has selected the Barbie option from your first lipstick set!” – you know that this is possibility not the best product for you. Despite this lipstick not being the right shade for my skin tone I did think it was quite a nice hot pink shade and had a pretty good coverage.
When you do these things you have to enter them with the knowledge that not every product you receive will be amazing and not every product is going to be for you. I was pleasantly surprised that there was only one product in my box that was a real blunder and so personally loved my box… My birthday is in February so it felt great to get a little surprise box in another month of the year. It also gave me the opportunity to try new brands I had never heard of before. I (very naughtily!) looked at each of the products online and calculated the value of my box to be £53 which meant that it was amazing value for money at £10. All in all I loved the #bloggerbeautybox experience and would definitely sign up for further boxes!
If you are interested in getting involved in future boxes check out the Blogger Beauty Box website and get in touch via Twitter @bbloggerbox or by using #bloggerbeautybox – for £10 including postage and packaging this is a cheaper alternative to other similar cosmetic boxes available, plus all of the items featured were full sized which is very unusual for similar subscriptions.
