Since I regularly get comments on how lovely my hair is, it only seems appropriate that I share my secret and fabulous hairdresser Hair by Michael Robert with you guys. I first started seeing Michael late last year after one of my best friends turned up to a girls night with a fabulous new ‘do. Now we’re not talking just a hair cut, this was noticeably different and looked fantastic. I asked her if she’d had something different done and the response was simply “No – I’ve just got a new hairdresser.” She told me it was an old friend’s son who had trained with Toni and Guy and had just set up his own salon. It was there and then that I knew I had to pay Hair by Michael Robert a visit…
My first visit
When I first visited Michael I went for a ten minute consultation. I knew that I wanted a ballyage doing again and I was adamant that I wanted rose
gold hues. I took along a photograph I had seen, however Michael quickly identified that my main concern was having healthy looking hair ad so advised me against what I had selected.
The style I had chosen meant bleaching my naturally dark locks and involved a process which perhaps wouldn’t leave my hair at its healthiest and therefore not looking its best. We discussed at length whether my primary concern was it looking like the photograph or it being healthy and fabulous, and I decided it was actually the latter. We opted to still go ahead with the ballyage, but with a tint and not a peroxide.
Michael also introduced me to a fabulous new product called Olaplaex which is designed to repair broken bonds in your hair caused by chemical, heat and mechanical damage.
There are three types of Olaplex; one which can be mixed in with your salon colour, one that can be applied to your hair as an in salon after shampoo treatment (without it being coloured) and another which is an at home product that you can purchase to apply once a week.
I now have an Olaplaex treatment every time I have my hair done (which is every 6 weeks for a cut and blow dry and Olaplex 2 and every 12 weeks for a cut, blow dry and colour with Olaplaex 1). I also use Olaplax 3 once a week at home as a conditioning treatment, which is usually on a Sunday when I am due a pamper!
As you can see from the various photographs of my hair after I’ve visited Michael Robert Hair, Michael specialises in bouncy blow dries which are fit for a Victoria Secret model. Now I may not be 6 foot tall and have super long legs, but after Michael has finished with my hair I always leave the salon feeling a million dollars. He also does gents styling, fabulous colour work and put ups, often assisting brides in finding their all important look before their big day.
What sets Michael apart from other hair stylists is his ability to listen to his client’s and advise them accordingly. He doesn’t simply do as you ask, he takes the time to get to know you and your long term goals before recommending a treatment or style. If he feels that something is not suited to your hair, believe me he will tell you. For me this has been a breath of fresh air as I actually feel that I am in safe hands and can trust Michael’s judgment.
The Hair by Michael Robert Salon
The Hair by Michael Robert salon is at 94 Boothferry road, Hull. It is beautifully decorated in white and grey, minimalist but luxurious. You are always greeted with a friendly face and a fresh coffee (or tea depending on your poison of choice!) and Michael regularly bakes offering his client’s fresh cheesecake, baileys cake and biscuits. Lightheartedness aside, it is the small personal touches that set Hair by Michael Robert a cut above (pardon the pun).

Michael if you are reading this, thank you so much for transforming my hair and I am sorry for all of those occasions where I have used by hot brush and damaged my ends. I promise that I have now thrown it in the bin and opted for my GHD curve once or twice a week instead….
