For most beauty fanatics washing make up brushes is a laborious task, especially if you are anything like me and have a number of different brush sets! Armed with my Johnson’s baby shampoo I usually wash all of my brushes on a Saturday morning before then leaving them on the windowsill to dry. Some Saturdays I will go to get ready at 6pm and my brushes will still be a little damp, which often results in an emergency waft with the hairdryer to get them ready for use. Feel my pain? You will be glad to know that there is now a much quicker alternative; the StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer.
About the StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer
Those of you who watch The Apprentice, may recall Series 7 winner Tom Pellereau – also known as “Inventor Tom.” You may also recall Lord Sugar getting irritated by him on numerous occasions and the interviewing panel being baffled by his business plan. Nevertheless he has gone on to create a number of useful gadgets including the StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer which is a life saver for beauty lovers.
The StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer is designed to wash AND dry your make up brushes within seconds. Sound to good to be true?
I too was a little dubious as to how effective the StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer could possibly be, so when StylPro contacted me asking me whether I’d like to give it a whirl (pardon the pun) I happily accepted.
The StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer arrived in a compact little box which contained:
- The StylPro device itself (a battery operated and slim handheld device)
- Collar stand
- 8 Collars
- StylPro Bowl
How it works
The StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer is really easy to use. You simply select the collar that fits the brush that you want to clean before clipping it to the spindle and then onto the StylePro device. Add a little water and brush cleaner to the StylPro Bowl, dip your brush in and watch your brush whirl around until it’s clean and dry!
I was genuinely impressed with how quickly the StylPro cleaned and dried my smaller brushes, however you can see from the above photographs that it wasn’t great with larger brushes (such as my fan brush). I also found that it struggled to clean my foundation brush, presumably as the bristles are much more compact and foundation is a much more difficult product to remove.
Other challenges I had included putting too much liquid into the bowl so it splashed everywhere and pressing the brush too far into the bowl so that it stopped the StylPro device from spinning. I think that the bowl could do to be a little larger, to accommodate a wider range of brushes and overcome both of these clumsy use style issues.
Whilst I didn’t think that the StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer results were quite as good as when you wash and dry your brushes yourself, it is a very quick and easy way of getting clean brushes that are ready for use straight away. It is also perfect for quick brush refreshes between colour applications, for example when you have used a dark eyeshadow but then want to use the same brush for a lighter shadow. So make up artists, this is definitely an essential in your kit.
I personally will continue to use the StylPro Make Up Brush Cleaner and Dryer for quick brush refreshes and weekly cleaning of my brushes, however I will also do a hand clean and dry once a month as a deep cleanse. Overall I thought it was a handy little device and one which definitely has the ability to make my life much easier, however there was room for a little improvement and further development.
