Tropic Skincare Body Smooth Refreshing Body Polish

Tropic Skincare is a brand I hadn’t really heard very much of until recently, but with the beauty industry shifting to demand more natural, cruelty free and vegan products it seems that Tropic Skincare is fast becoming the next big thing. Founded by the Apprentice contestant Susan Ma and backed by Lord Sugar it seems that the brand really is a force to be reckoned with. Armed with her passion for natural and cruelty free beauty products Susan started to experiment and founded her first product; Tropic Skincare Body Smooth refreshing body polish. She bottled it up and started by selling it in markets across London before taking part in the Apprentice in 2011 and capturing the eager eye of business guru Lord Sugar. He agreed become a 50/50 investor and then sent his favourite beauty blogger a sample to review….

Jokes aside, I am absolutely delighted to be writing this review and telling you ALL about Tropic Skincare as since trialling Body Smooth I have fallen in love with the brand, their core values and their product range. They are one of the few brands who care about the welfare of animals and preventing their unnecessary suffering, so can 100% guarantee that none of their products are tested on animals or include ingredients which cause them distress (such as beeswax, lanolin and honey). And if Tropic’s reassurance isn’t enough, they have been proudly certified by The Vegan Society, Cruelty Free International and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Similarly they offer products created freshly by hand daily using the purest and most natural ingredients and guarantee that all of their products are free from parabens, SLS/ALS (sodium/ammonium lauryl sulphate),  unsustainable palm oils, formaldehydes, phthalates,  alcohol, MI (methylisothiazolinone), petrochemicals, mineral oils, gluten,  triclosan, harsh preservatives, toxic chemicals and *the dreaded* microbeads.

So about this award winning Body Polish….

What are the ingredients of Tropic Skincare Body Smooth?

As I touched upon above, Tropic Skincare Body Smooth contains mineral rich sea salts, plant extracts and TEN (!!) essential oils, which are as follows:Tropic skincare Body Smooth exfoliating body polish

  • Organic Coconut Oil
  • Jojoba Oil
  • Macadamia Oil
  • Rosehip Oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Australian Lemon Myrtle
  • Eucalyptus
  • Lime
  • Lemon
  • Bergamot
  • Peppermint

It has such a zesty light fragrance and I really wish you could scratch and sniff the images in this post just to see how divine it is! The way a product smells has such an impact on how you feel using it, so I am pleased to tell you that Tropic Skincare Body Smooth leaves you feeling refreshed, energised and invigorated, and totally ready for the day.

Directions for use

Unlike other body scrubs the Tropic Skincare Body Smooth refreshing polish contains really fine granules which do not irritate or scratch the skin during use. I often find that when applying body scrubs to dry skin, half of the product falls on the floor as the consistency is just too dry so it doesn’t hold. The consistency of Body Smooth however is more like a granulated shower gel as the essential oils allow it to be applied smoothly onto the skin without lots of fall away and mess.

You simply apply a small amount onto dry skin before you get into the bath or shower and then rinse away. I have also used it in the bath or shower on damp skin and it works just as well. Once it is rinsed off it leaves the essential oils on your skin, resulting in you being freshly moisturised when you leave the bath or shower and killing two birds with one stone! So for those of you who hate moisturising after a bath or shower this is the answer to all of your lazy beauty prayers.

Tropic skincare Body Smooth exfoliating body polishPrice tag

The only negative point really is that it is priced at £24.00 for 200ml which a lot of people may think is quite pricey. I personally would probably pay it as I am a total product junkie and it is not a product I would need to use every day. 1 – 2 times a week is probably sufficient and you really don’t need a huge amount. It is more a treat and luxury product that you use to have a little bit of a pamper and spoil yourself, so to make it last that bit longer you could only apply it to select areas or really dry patches and not all over. But however you choose to use it, I am sure you will fall in love with it too!

Overall verdict

As you can see I was a huge fan of this product. I loved the packaging, the fragrance, the application, the lack of mess and the end result. As far as scrubs go it was so invigorating and refreshing, without being rough and leaving my skin red and irritated after application. With scrubs in the past my skin has been left tingling and red but that just did not happen with the Tropic Skincare Body Polish. Instead after towel drying I was left with super soft, moisturised and glowing skin.

For me Tropic Skincare Body Polish could not be more perfect for this time of year when the weather is warming up and we are all looking to expose that little bit more skin. It is perfect for using to prep your skin before applying fake tan or even to remove the remnants of last weeks tan. You can use it immediately before going out on a hot date or before getting into bed (believe me it makes your bed sheets smell amazing in the morning!). Either way, whenever you choose to use it you will smell like a summertime zesty dream.
