Women in Business: Deborah Mitchell of Heaven Skincare

As a woman I think it is really important to recognise and celebrate the successes of other women, to empower one another and stand united on bridging the gender gap, particularly when it comes to the topics of business and equal pay. I am therefore really excited bring you my Women in Business series which will feature a number of truly inspiring and successful women.

A few weeks back I was lucky enough to meet Deborah Mitchell who is the founder of Heaven Skincare and the innovative Bee Venom Mask. Deborah is the first to be featured in my Women in Business series and is someone who knows only too well how difficult it can be to succeed and protect your identity in the market.

Over the past decade Deborah  and her company Heaven Skincare have fought to retain the rights to her patented formula Abeetoxin™  find out why in my interview below….

So Deborah, what inspired you to create Heaven Skincare and in particular your bee venom range?

My skin had very bad spots so I wanted to find a solution to my skin and that of my clients. I made an anti ageing moisturiser that helped my spots and kept me looking younger. 20 years on my picture is not so different and that’s thanks for my age defiance and bee venom masks, I would really hate to be without either!

For those readers unfamiliar with Heaven Skincare, what would you say are the core foundations of your brand?

Organic skincare that gets results fast and heals and soothes even the most sensitive of skins.

How has Heaven Skincare grown since you first started the business?

I started my mobile Heaven business with home made skincare products and a pack of nail extensions. Now Heaven is a multi-million pound business with offices in Dubai, China, Japan, Taiwan, USA, Thailand and the UK with stockists in Spain, Slovenia, Holland, Sweden…. the list goes on!

In 2015 Heaven Skincare is now an international brand but you are still very much at the heart of it. How do you manage to retain the personal Deborah Mitchell touch and ethos whilst still trading on an international scale?

I love people. I’m as excited to sell Heaven products as my client’s are to use it. Being a cult status brand means the customer contact keeps my feet on the ground and my head in Heaven.

What have been your biggest struggles since launching Heaven Skincare?

Trying not to grow too fast. I’ve had Department stores ringing asking for my brand and I have had to say no. I want client’s to use Heaven and love it and the results it gives their skin. When it is used to its full potential the results can be incredible.

And on the flip side, what have been your most memorable achievements since launching Heaven Skincare?

I have had many memorable experiences since launching Heaven and have met some wonderful people. I have to say that when I have left some of my client’s and then see them on the TV later or the following day it would be really hard for me not to remember every detail with a very big satisfied smile.

Which three products are your personal favourites from the Heaven Skincare range?

  • Age Defiance – I can’t be without this. I would get spots or lines if I did not use it.
  • Bee Venom Masks – Any of them, I love them all.
  • The new edition Cleanser – I never feel truly clean with any other Cleanser. They either make my skin too dry or too greasy.

I understand that your Bee Venom Mask contains the patented formula Abeetoxin™ so without giving any of your trade secrets away what is it that makes your product so different to any other on the market?

Mine works!!! And the reason it works is because it is fresh and not freeze dried. It is the mixture of  Abeetoxin™ that holds the secret! The skin really does go smooth and it does this to save its life, which actually in turn helps it. Other ranges have taken my formula apart by lab teams but they cannot find out how I do it….

For anyone looking at Heaven Skincare and wondering whether your products are for them what would you say?

Heaven suits all skin types and it fixes all. Bold statement, but true!

What are your goals for Heaven Skincare over the next few years?

Many large companies have asked to buy Heaven but my goals are to keep expanding the business into the other markets and open Heaven franchises to help other people own their own businesses. Also to help more people’s skins!

If you had one message you could personally pass on to Jessica KG readers what would it be?

What an amazing blog this is, I am really very pleased to be here. Jessica KG readers know great things when they see them so thank you for making me feel a part of your wonderful group!

A very personal and huge thank you to Deborah from me for being the first businesswoman to be featured in my series. I am sure you will agree that she is a lady who has achieved success on a global scale with a brand and products she has personally created and is truly passionate about. Certainly an inspiration to us all!

I will of course be doing a review post of the Heaven weekenders anti ageing kit I have trialled so stay tuned for that being released over the next few weeks!
